  • Cowgirl in the Sand is more than worth 8 bucks

I would pay eight dollars just for cowgirl in the sand, but with Down by the River and Everyone knows this is nowhere, this is on of my favorite live albums. Much more raw the Weld, and more electric than Rust Never Sleeps, this album is perfect for people who just like nice natural hard rock performances, without any effects or tricks (see Weld, or Arc). This is by far the best of Neil Young's electric performances (acoustic tied between Sugar Mountain and 4-way Street). If you want more raw energy from Young you should check out 4-way Street, which is an acoustic/electric live album by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, you'll have to buy the full album to access to the good stuff: 14 minute version of Carry on, 13 minute version of Southern Man, but the whole album is great anyways.

This rates in the all-time list of live albums, capturing Crazy Horse at the start of a long career. There is some serious jamming here. For sound quality the vinyl is incredible (at any price) but for portability's sake I'm here.

This is an amazing show but it is available for free on Wolfgang's Vault for free (including Cinnamon Girl which was not part of the release)...quality is better on itunes though and I still purchased...

I can honestly say that this album contains the greatest version of Cowgirl in the Sand I have ever heard. Although it is unfortunate that the song is not availible singularly, you can't go wrong by buying the whole album. It is one of my favorite live albums.
  • If you like Everybody Knows This is Nowhere...

you will love this cousin of the original recordings. Neil isn't sick with a 100 degree fever as he was during those sessions, but it plays pretty well to a 21st-Century audience. Neil's leads are better here than on the original album, and I like Danny;s contributions to lead vocals on several of the cuts. This is Neil as a member of a band, as opposed to Neil with a band: big difference, and well worth the dough.
  • CD- worth it. DVD- a rip off.

The music from this album is Neil in his prime. Excellent song selection. My problem is the DVD that it came with. I was expecting some old footage of the concert. Instead all that was there was photos of the concert with the same songs as the CD, not to mention a computer generated DAT recorder layered over the top of these images. What a joke! Nowhere on the packaging did it say "not an actual concert, just a collection of photos". This was completely misleading, and definately not worth double the CD price! At least the Massey Hall DVD showed footage most of the time, even though it was poorly filmed. Don't waste your money on the DVD unless you like a photo montage of a concert.
  • Neil Young At His Finest

This is one of the most stunning and bold live performances I have ever heard. Young's guitair work is mindblowing and Crazy Horse backs up Young's work very well. Many people forget how well Young can play guitair because of his peaceful acoustic work at Massey Hall, but he reminds you in this one. Highly recommended
